Cup Holder Adapters

This project is perhaps my most practical. My dad owns a Volkswagon Jetta which happens to have very small cup holders. Often drinks would spill, or would not even fit in the cup holders at all. I decided to create a simple design that would fit inside the existing cup holders and create a bigger space for drinks.
I went through multiple iterations before reaching this design. Before, I had created a single piece, but the problem with that design was that it could only hold up to a certain size drink. It was also inefficient to 3D print as there was a large cantilevered overhang. I created a new design that allowed for the top piece to be interchanged so that a larger array of drinks could be held. The two pieces also allowed for easier printing.
I spent time thinking about how the two pieces could connect to each other so that they could be interchanged easily, but still be secure. My first idea was to have the top piece screw into the bottom piece, but the threads proved to be inefficient both when printing and when changing tops. I came up with a new design that used a tongue and groove system. This was my most efficient and secure design.
